The fragrances your favourite celebrities are spritzing

Been wondering what Cynthia's go-to scent has been during the Wicked 'Journey Through Oz' world tour? She's a big fan of this intense cologne from Jo Malone London, which she discovered after she forgot to pack her usual travel fragrances on a trip to Canada a few years ago.

"I always take a fragrance or two with me when I travel, and I actually have a ridiculous amount of scents, but I think I was heading to Montreal or something and had forgotten to pack anything," Erivo told The Strategist. "I got to the airport duty-free and was going to just buy something I already owned, but one of the salespeople showed me this new perfume, and I don’t know! It’s so sweet and smoky at the same time, and it just works with my body chemistry. It’s been months, and I haven’t used any other fragrance. I spray it on my clothes. I spray it on my hair."

"When I spray it on myself, I can’t even smell it, but everyone else can. It’s a unisex scent and definitely muskier and masculine, but I love that. People literally stop me on the street to ask me what I’m wearing. It’s not like they recognized me or anything," Hale told The Strategist in 2021. "Honestly, I feel like that’s what perfume should do. I usually don’t talk about what I wear because it feels like my little secret, but I decided to stop being secretive about it because it’s that good."

Vanessa Hudgens' favourite fragrance is technically new to her, but it hails from a scent family that she keeps coming back to, regardless of brand. 

"I just got this, even though it’s a fragrance that I’ve known about for so long now," she told The Strategist in 2023. "Before that, it was Maison Margiela’s By the Fireplace, and I loved that. I’m just a big fan of a semi-masculine scent that has a hint of vanilla in it as well."

"I’ve always been attracted to scent and sensitive to it in a good and bad way. Honestly, all of my memories are often centred on scent," Elsesser shared with The Strategist in 2021. "When I started working in the industry, I got really excited about being able to participate in luxury scents. The first place I looked was Frédéric Malle. The first perfume I bought from there was the most popular scent, which is Portrait of a Lady. It’s a beautiful scent, but at the time, I couldn’t really connect to it. I didn’t feel like I was that lady the perfumery described through the scent. So I went back and tested others, and found this one, which has this floral but not-too-summery scent. It blends well with my personal scent, too. It feels very much like me when I put it on."

Issa Rae smells so good that during a recent interview with Allure the publication couldn't help but ask the American Fiction star what perfume she was wearing. "I'm so glad you asked actually," she joked. "There's this Chloé perfume that I got at fashion week that I always get complimented on. It's Atelier des Fleurs — I smell like a mix of Palmer's Cocoa Butter ($13.56 from iHerb) and that.

Sydney Sweeney is our go-to girl for cult favourite beauty products; from a $20 ice roller to a TikTok-approved eyelash enhancing serum, the Euphoria actress knows how to pick ‘em. While most celebrities are frustratingly tight-lipped about the beauty products they use and love, Sweeney’s not stingy when it comes to sharing her list of favourites. She’s already revealed the mascara she loves to use, and now she’s dished on a perfume she adores so much that she’ll be gifting it to her family for Christmas. 

"There’s a travel-size Armani My Way fragrance, [and] I’m definitely going to be gifting that to my Nana, my Grandi," Sweeney recently shared with ELLE. "[My grandparents] won’t read this, so they won’t know," she revealed. "[But] I think it’s such a beautiful gift, the bottle is gorgeous, and it’s a great travel size."

There are so many fragrances I distinctly associate with other people, but they’re not necessarily for me," Margot Robbie told Wanted in 2019. "Gabrielle Chanel Essence feels incredibly feminine and powerful. It feels warm. It has a creaminess, radiance and an effortless quality that I associate with Chanel. I especially love tuberose [which is featured heavily]. To me, this is a fragrance with force of character. It feels distinct. It feels vibrant."

As far as we’re concerned, when Lana Condor recommends a beauty product, it’s a certified banger by association. Case and point? Condor’s go-to red carpet base – Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation – is basically a celebrity in its own right. So when the 24-year-old told Byrdie that she was just as obsessed with the Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia, of course, we had to know more.

“It has a white gardenia scent that smells so, so good,” Condor explained to the publication. “It’s so delicious and makes me feel bright and ready for the day!”. Though she did admit that “the perfume is a little bougie,” it’s A-okay because “it’s really nice [and] I'm like, ‘Wow, Lana! How fancy of you!’".

Hey, if it makes her feel like a million bucks, then we say that’s a necessary splurge.

Hadid may be the face of several fragrances (Tom Ford and Tommy Hilfiger drops among them), but her personal spritz is actually an Armani delight: "I love Acqua di Gioia," she shared with Refinery29.

What's so fabulous about it, you ask? Its complexity. It's somehow airy, sweet, zesty and warm all at once with notes of mint, lemon, brown sugar, peony. If you're after a perfume that's tough to pin down, this is your Hadid-approved winner.

Bieber is a girl after our own hearts; she switches between both a splurge and a steal. And while she may not have revealed the exact eaus she spritzes, we have some pretty good guesses based on what she shared...

"There are two fragrances I love. I really like Ariana Grande’s perfumes – that’s not a joke – I think they smell amazing, plus they’re fun and playful," she shared in a past interview. One of Grande's most popular drops? R.E.M., a sweet yet sophisticated blend that smells like heaven.

"I do like to switch up the perfumes I wear on a regular basis though, as I get bored of them quite easily. Another fragrance brand I love is Ex Nihilio – they do some beautiful, unique scents," she spilled of her other go-to brand. FYI, this Amber Sky scent from them is downright divine.

Like Marilyn Monroe, Emma Stone has said she sprays a Chanel fragrance every night before bed to relax her senses. For Stone, however, it's the 'GARDÉNIA' scent from the brand's Les Exclusifs line, which features subtle, elegant notes of orange blossom, jasmine and greens.

In a 2012 interview with 60 Minutes, Adele said she'd never accept an offer to endorse a fragrance or beauty product, saying: "I wouldn't wear my own perfume. That's not me being in touch with my fans. I'll always wear the same perfume I've always worn since I was 15."

The "same perfume" she's talking about? Dior's Hypnotic Poison. Housed in a poison apple-reminiscent red bottle, the fragrance smells strongly of vanilla, caramel and fruits, and is downright delicious.

In an interview with The Daily Express in 2015, Markle revealed she's a fan of the Wild Bluebell Cologne fragrance by iconic British perfumer Jo Malone. She also said: "Fragrance is my favourite thing, so much so, that if I leave the house and don't put any on, I'll turn around and go back home." Yep, that's commitment to cologne. The Duchess is also a fan of Jo Malone's 'Wood Sage & Sea Salt' fragrance, but has said she enjoys 'Wild Bluebell Cologne' for use during the day.

Though not actually confirmed, Rihanna is speculated to be an avid wearer of the Love, Don't Be Shy fragrance by exclusive boutique perfume brand Kilian.

Despite never announcing her love for the fragrance, many stars have commented on the Fenty Beauty founder's luscious, mysterious scent in the past, with beauty YouTuber Jackie Aina finally nailing the traits of the fragrance after she met Rihanna face-to-face. Therefore, we consider this one almost certainly confirmed.

One look at Huntington-Whiteley's Instagram will reveal she's a fragrance obsessive, and rotates between multiple different perfumes. However, she counts Byredo's Gypsy Water, a peppery yet refreshing eau, as her all-time favourite.

Turner is a fan of the cult scent Santal 33 by New York-based fragrance brand Le Labo and has admitted that she has candles in the same scent as the fragrance she wears everyday. In a 2019 interview with ELLE, the Game of Thrones actress explained: "I love Le Labo Santal 33. The musky smell is a little more manly, but I like men's cologne."

Monroe helped catapult Chanel No. 5 to global fame when she famously revealed she wears the fragrance (and "nothing else") to bed every night. In an interview in the '60s, the actress divulged: "They ask me questions. Just an example: 'What do you wear to bed? A pyjama top? The bottoms of the pyjamas? A nightgown?' So I said, 'Chanel No. 5,' because it's the truth… And yet, I don't want to say 'nude.' But it's the truth!"

If there’s one thing we love in this world, it’s a good smelling man. No, seriously think about it. Our sense of smell can genuinely change up how we perceive attractiveness (not that Michael B. Jordan is lacking any of that). So when Jordan signed on to be the face of Coach cologne it was because he genuinely loved the fragrance, even saying it reminds him of wearing cologne as a teenager for the first time. But what is his go to scent? Coach by Coach for Men. He likes that it's fruitier (think tropical) with spicy peppery notes but is still a lighter fragrance that tells a story.
